Designing the Kakta Collection

Designing the Kakta Collection

“We take what others discard, waste and forgotten fragments, and elevate them into bold expressions of beauty, purpose and possibility”

Light has the power to affect and shape our moods, our routines and the way we experience the spaces we move in. The new Kakta lamp collection embodies a philosophy where sculptural presence and quiet functionality transform the simple act of lighting up a room. It becomes an experience of form and atmosphere and shows how a lamp can help transform a space.

There is already a vast variety of lamps on the market, which naturally raises the question: Why introduce a new collection of lamps? The answer is simple; we wanted to design a fully circular lamp. The materials are waste materials and chosen for their ability to be recycled and re-introduced into the production cycle. Additionally, during the design process we ensured that every component of the lamp is repairable. Accidents happen, and discarding an entire product  because of one small part was neither sustainable nor sensible.

Apart from selecting materials that meet our demands and expectations, we also placed great emphasis on creating a light that is both functional and atmospheric, bringing warmth and a sense of joy to any space.

The sculptural language of the Kakta series draws inspiration from natural formations, such as rippling sand beds, calm waves of the sea or the textured surface of a cactus. Even the name Kakta is inspired by nature, being a wordplay on the latin word Cactaceae, which embodies a cactus family of plants.

What sets the collection apart is the balance in the lamps, with each piece standing as a sculptural object by daylight where soft shadows emphasize its contours. When the lamp is turned on, the character changes, and adds a glow that deepens the textures, making the lamp feel almost alive. The result is a lamp that participates in a room rather than merely filling it.

In a world where many products are treated as disposable, Hyfer Objects take a different approach. In all designs, Hyfer Objects puts a lot of energy on the choice of materials, ensuring that a product can last but also that it can be recycled and reused. This is perhaps more clear than ever in the new lamp series. From the very first sketches, reparability and material longevity were core priorities.

The collection is designed so every component can be replaced if needed. The shade, base, electrical components, and structural elements can all be disassembled with ease. The design-for-disassembly approach ensures that the lamps can live for decades, not seasons, aligning with Hyfer Objects’ commitment to long-term sustainability and ownership.

Material sensitivity is one of Hyfer Objects biggest focus areas and the Kakta series exemplify this commitment. Crafted in Sweden, the collection uses regenerative, bio-derived and recycled materials chosen for both quality and environmental responsibility.

The foot and lampshade are made from a bio-based wood composite, which is tactile and pleasantly matte in finish. Kakta Linen is made of PLA from bio-based materials and consists of 40% wood scrap fibers from the Swedish forest industry. Kakta Vanilla is instead made of recycled PLA from bio-based materials and consists of 10% cellulose fibers. This material is made from renewable resources, and can be ground down and reintroduced into new composite batches, allowing waste to become a continuous resource. The material was also chosen due to the warm glow it gives the lamp when the light is turned on.

The base is crafted from recycled steel sourced from industrial byproducts within the steel industry. When using repurposed steel we save up to 90-95% emissions and energy use compared to virgin steel production and 60-70% compared to recycled steel that has gone through melting processes*. What was once discarded material becomes a stable weighty anchor for the lamps. Because they contain recycled and repurposed materials, each lamp tells its own unique story.

The Kakta Lamp collection is for design lovers who believe that objects should do more than fill a space, they should enrich it. Hyfer Objects design with meaning, story, and sustainable integrity. The lamps serve not only as lighting solutions but as companions to daily rituals.

Hyfer Objects invites you to see the lamps not just as a function, but as a moment of beauty and hope woven into everyday life. We wish to create a dialogue, a tactile conversation between earth and hand, between simplicity and soul. We want the Kakta collection to be living symbols of connection between people and planet, between creation and regeneration.
